Oh. My. Gosh.

My daughter and I went to see WICKED last night. I only vaguely knew what the story was--sort of a prequel to the Wizard of Oz, that tells the story of how the Wicked Witch became "WICKED".

It was absolutely incredible. The best show I've ever seen. The music was amazing, the set perfect, the performance was...take-your-breath-away.

I got goose bumps from the songs, and had tears in my eyes over the story more than once. The writing was wonderful.

I'm a fan. And now the proud owner of Elphaba's hat key chain. :) (My daughter went with a t-shirt.)

Have any of you seen WICKED? Did you just love it too?

I'm off to buy the soundtrack...

  1. I KNOW!! Don't you wish you could've come up with that story???? I think that a lot about different movies or stories that blow me away!

Glad you had fun with your daughter.

  2. I would LOVE to see Wicked. Did you know it was a book first? I have it but haven't read it yet =(

  3. So nice that you could take the opportunity to bond with your only child. Wait a minute...

  4. I haven't seen it but you've peaked my interest now.

I would have gone with a t-shirt too. I lose my keys too much.

  5. I haven't seen it! We wanted to this past weekend but we saw The Lion King instead and boy was that amazing! Highly recommend!

  6. Oh! My interest is piqued too! Knowing from Tonya that it's also a book … another to add to that huge list of mine!

  7. I saw Wicked with the original Broadway cast and I loved it, having seen it several times.

I'm glad you both enjoyed your outing.

  8. I read the book and really really really want to see the musical.

  9. I have seen in 3 times and ready to see it again! I own the same keychain and the soundtrack is awesome!

I read the book and wasn't a fan but the show is awesome glad you enjoyed it!!

  10. I haven't read the book, either, and I've heard the musical has little to do with the book--not sure if that's true. Does anyone know?

I've been raving about the show all day, pretty much to anyone who will listen. I hope it comes around again soon! If you haven't seen it YOU MUST. You will not be disappointed. I promise.

  11. The book has very little to do with the musical, where the show is uplifting the book is depressing. I did not enjoy the book and it took me forever to get through. You can always borrow my copy if you want!

  12. Heather,
I read the book (all of his books and can't get enough of his writing) and saw the play with the original broadway cast (a- ma-zing) and they are very different. Fortunately, Maguire had a hand in writing the play so that it didn't feel butchered.
The book is very dark, with a heavy emphasis on politics and it does take a few chapters to get going, but once it does it is a hard ride to stop. The play takes many of the main themes and lightens them up, without deviating too far from main plot points.
That being said I recommend the book, but be prepared for a very different experience.

  13. I agree with Amy. The musical is different from the book. Although the book is darker and harder to follow, it is still a great book. I haven't seen the musical but I'm addicted to the soundtrack and I'm saving up to go see the musical. I'm just glad that the musical has a happy ending whereas in the book...well, enough about that.

Oh! But I want to buy EVERYTHING that is Wicked! lol! How will I choose?
