Lurking

I pretty much took the weekend off from the Internet. Saturday, I was out most of the day and yesterday was just one of those days I wanted to curl up with a book--so I did.

I did check email, and peeked at Facebook, but for the most part I lurked, quietly keeping tabs.

I'm quiet and shy by nature, so lurking suits my personality much better than constantly sending out notes and messages (which is why if you sign up for my newsletter, you only get them two-three times a year -- if that. Speaking of, I need to get one ready to send out...).

But I also know that being (somewhat) in the public eye, I need to have a strong Internet presence, keep up with blogs and FB pages and loops and groups. The upside of that is I've found I really enjoy the people I've met, online friends, who when I meet in person almost always become instant friends--as if I've known them forever. And isn't that kind of true?

The downside is that it takes a lot of time. I could spend hours and hours online everyday, and often do, but this past weekend, I needed a bit of a timeout--does everyone do this once in a while? Just kind of unplug?

I'm now recharged, my books is done (The Fixer Upper by Mary Kay Andrews) and it's time to get back to work... I'm still working on two projects at once (something new for me), and so far it's going well. I think what's going to happen is that the more I write, one story will become dominant and that's what I'll focus on. Still waiting for that to happen, though.
