Charmed

I've started a new proposal (one of the three to be done by the end of September, which, cough, cough, I realize now might have been quite the lofty goal), and I'm toying with giving my newest dysfunctional family the surname "Charming."

As I was mulling that, I started wondering if there really are people out there with the last name of Charming. So, I did what I always do when questions like that pop up: I Googled.

According to the White Pages I found online, there are fourteen "Charming" listings across the country. I skimmed names (Cheryl, Chris, Jade), and wouldn't you know it? There's an actual Prince Charming in California. I laughed myself silly when I saw that. I'm curious if he has warped parents, or if he changed his name or if perhaps, his address also has an M. Mouse and some dwarfs...

There are also, suspiciously, two P. Charmings listed. Princes who are a bit more modest? Or perhaps fearful of all the single ladies out there who might come a'knockin'?

Yeah, I had myself a bit of fun yesterday. I still haven't decided on "Charming" as a last name, but it's definitely a front-runner.

  1. Use it!! I think the more off base the better. It just adds to the story.

  2. I agree with Tonya, you should use Charming as a last name for your family, because I could see how it will play with your story.

  3. Although I don't know what your story is about, I think Charming would be a great name to use. You could come up with some real quirky first names to go with it! Have fun.......

  4. I like that for a last name. Especially for characters as quirky as yours (I get this from reading one book of your's lol- but I liked the book, a lot)

  7. I went to school with a Mary Christmas and my husband went to school with a girl named Crystal Shannon Delier. Give it a second, that one will come to you. (If need be, shorten the middle name)

My daughter has been in a pre-school program with children named Diamond and Marquise (twins) and another little girl named Lexus (just like the car).

Yes, sadly, people do things like that to their children.

I think Charming isn't even remotely out there as a surname.

  8. I once knew a little girl whose name was Liberty Bell. She was born on the Bicentennial. Guess they had to.

You're going to create another family, Heather? Wonderful news! Absolutely, make them Charming. Please. I can't wait.

Three proposals by the end of the month? No wonder you were asleep by 9:30 the other night!

  9. LOL, Aimee! It did take me a second with that Crystal name.

You all have convinced me to use "Charming." So I will. Thank you!
