Insult to Injury

We've been having trouble again with a cat stalking the birds in our backyard. It's gray with orange eyes and has a mean streak. I don't know if it's someone's pet or a stray. I just know it like to hide behind/under trees waiting for some innocent bird to come along. I can practically hear it licking its chops.

Is this LOLcat image not perfect for this post?
So, the first time, I threw water at it (I missed). The second time, I filled up the water bucket, opened the backdoor, and the cat took one look at that bucket and took off. The third time, the water missed as well (can't say I have good aim).

It's been a few days now, and I haven't seen it back. Hopefully, it learned that we're going to keep trying (I stress "trying") to throw water on it.

Then yesterday I was sitting in my favorite chair and happened to look out the backdoor. A blur caught my eye. It was a cat. Not the gray cat, though, but a black and white (he was really cute) cat. Apparently, the gray cat has sent invitations to all his friends. Best buffet in town. So, I get up to get the water bucket and the cat kind of looks at me through the door and starts drinking...from the bird bath! The bird bath!!! The mockery! The nerve! The gall! The injustice of it all!

I filled the water bucket but before I even opened the door, the cat was gone. I kept the water handy for the rest of the day but didn't see anymore visitors.

I can only wonder what today will bring...

  1. Get one of those super soaker water guns and keep it loaded and handy. It's got to be easier to aim than a bucket.

(Maybe the new arrival was just thirsty.)

  2. I was going to suggest a sprinkler hose but the super soaker water gun should work.

Good luck with keeping the cats at bay.

  3. I was going to suggest the super soaker, but Linda beat me to it.

Of course there's still a little matter of aim...

  4. I agree with Linda, the super soaker is the way to go.

  5. I agree with the other commenter's. I use a squirt bottle with my cat when he misbehaves that way I don't miss. Now all I need to do is pick up the bottle and he is off. I would suggest a squirt bottle or a super soaker for longer distances.

  6. Today the black and white cat came back--skulking through the backyard. As soon as it heard the creak of the back door, it took off. :)

Note to self: Grease the hinges on the back door.

I have to track down the super soaker--I think it's in the shed. I'm laughing at the thought of me sneaking around the yard with the squirt gun. LOL.

  7. i have the same problem...don't kvow what to do with that cat!
