What Would You Do?


I'm curious. What would you do if you find a voice mail where someone's going on and on about meeting up with you, or that they're waiting for your call--and it's the wrong number.

Yet you know they're waiting for this person to call them back.

Do you call them and say hey, I'm not Rhonda? Or text them? Or ignore the message?

What would you do?

    I call back to let them know they called the wrong number. I feel it is the right thing to do so they are aware and don't feel like the other person is ignoring them or anything.

    Good question. If they were obviously waiting on this person, I'd probably call them back. But I had some guy call me repeatedly, begging some girl to take him back. I figured the person he thought he was calling likely gave him a wrong number on purpose, so I ignored it...other than the entertainment (and potential future story) value.

    Years ago I had a phone number one digit different than a bank. Someone called, long distance and left a big long message with their banking information! On my answering machine with my outgoing message of obvious foolishness - meaning, duh, I am not a bank.

    I did not call them back but I did get my phone number changed (for free) because of all the bank calls I got.

    Really - would you leave your info on a random answering machine!

    No I didn't call them back, it was long distance.

    I've had several people leave messages on our answering machine at home and they have the wrong number. If they leave a call back number then I always call back to tell them they had the wrong number.

    Well, when this happened to me yesterday, I didn't call her back. I figured when she didn't hear from her friend, she'd call back.

    BUT, a few years ago, when I received a wrong number message from a woman calling a family member about a death in the family and the funeral plans, I would have called back in an instant--but I had no phone number (it was before we had caller ID)!

    We usually call them back and say "hey, you left me a message but I'm pretty sure you called the wrong number." :)

    We get these from time to time. Oddly enough, we get a lot from doctors' offices calling to confirm appointments or give test results. We always try to let the caller know they reached the wrong number.
