The Oddity

I've begun noticing something very strange about me lately. And yes, yes, I know--there are many strange things about me, but this is a new strange thing.

Well, at least it's new in the sense that I've finally realized it's happening. Maybe it's been there all along, and I just never noticed... (Hmm, let's not discuss my observation skills.)

Anyway, what I've noticed is that I wake up every morning (every single morning) with a song in my head. Not the same song. Different songs on different mornings. Last week I had Wouldn't it Be Loverly one morning, Moves Like Jagger the next, Rolling in the Deep on another... There's no telling what I'll wake up with. And they just play over and over in my head like they're on repeat. The only thing that makes the song stop is when I hear another song.

Strange, right? It makes me wonder what's really going on in that head of mine. It's a mad, mad world in there. Does this happen to any of you, by any chance?

  1. Yup. But, I've never thought it odd. Maybe that's odd.

Great, now I'm worried about both of us.

  2. I would love to have Wouldn't It be Loverly in my head! I often get songs in my head but that's probably because music is on constantly in my house. Sometimes it can be a little overwhelming though and I need some peace so I change it to ambient or New Age or something that doesn't have lyrics. Busy brains need relief once in a while. : }

  3. Aimee, we can be odd together. :)

    Sonia, I can share! Here:

All I want is a room somewhere,
Far away from the cold night air.
    With one enormous chair,
    Aow, wouldn't it be loverly?
Lots of choc'lates for me to eat,
Lots of coal makin' lots of 'eat.
Warm face, warm 'ands, warm feet,
    Aow, wouldn't it be loverly?
Aow, so loverly sittin' abso-bloomin'-lutely still.
I would never budge 'till spring
    Crept over me windowsill.

Btw, my brain would love some relief. LOL.

  4. I do that too. Today it's "This is Halloween" from Nightmare Before Christmas. Yesterday, it was the theme song from the tv show Firefly. :) I'm the same way that it will stop when I play something else but, sometimes, then I'm stuck with the new song till the next day LOL! Creative minds just have to have a little tune going I suppose!

  5. Oh, this is nothing new for me. Every night around 3 am, I wake up singing. I use to think it was strange and so did my husband. But now he sleeps through it and in the morning he asks what song was I singing.

  6. Wow - I guess there are a lot of us "odd ducks" out there, since I have the same thing happen. What's even stranger for me is it is not always a song I heard the day before, so I am never sure why that particular song gets stuck. However, there have been times when the song drove me so crazy that I specifically tried to get another one in my head just to get rid of the old one.

  7. You don't by any chance have your alarm clock set to play music, do you? Just wondering.

  8. April, maybe you're right about the creative thing. I like having a reason! LOL.

Tonya, 3 AM?!? I'd hit the snooze button on that inner radio. :)

Hmm, Lynda. I wonder if it is a song I heard the day before... I'm going to see if I can keep track of that.

Nope, Linda, but that would make some sense. Unlike reality. :)

  9. The odd thing with me is when I do wake up with a song in my head, it's always the same song: Sing by The Carpenters. Now try to get that song out of your head.

  10. I am the complete opposite! I fall asleep with songs in my head just about every night. Mine are very random too and some I haven't heard in months or years. It is very, very strange! Glad to know I'm not alone though.

  11. There is a name for it: earworm

Sounds like something for a book plot.

  12. Happens to me almost every morning. Sometimes it's a song I've heard/had in my head the day before, sometimes it's a random song that just shows up in my dreams.
