The Early Present

I've been working like a fiend, trying to get Trouble Under the Tree done before December 1st (when I kinda-sorta promised it). The problem was that this story was supposed to be a novella. Maybe 15,000- 25,000 words. No problem, right?

Yeah. Well. Let's just that after a three-and-a-half year hiatus, Nina had a lot to say. This novella became a short novel (52,000 words). Sometimes it's just hard to shut that Nina up.

Which has been a good thing. I LOVE this story. Love being in Nina's world again, with her wacky neighbors, her crazy yet lovable family, her employees... Oh, and her love life, too. It takes quite the interesting twist in this book.

I uploaded the book this morning, and it's already available on Amazon and Smashwords (something that usually takes a few days), so I'm doing a little happy dance here. Hopefully, Nook will have it soon.

This book has been a little present to myself--and I hope it will be for you, too. Happy reading!

  1. Good for you for meeting (surpassing!) your own self-imposed deadline! I first "discovered" you with the introduction of Lucy Valentine and have loved her stories so much (looking forward to 1/3/12!). Now it is time for me to go back and read all of your Nina Quinn books! I am not sure how to best phrase this question because I've never read anything that has gone straight to e-book format, but how did you/does one you go about edits and rewrites when releasing a work solely as an e-book? Without the help of an editor is it too easy to not hold oneself to as high of standards or does one usually solicit author friends to help with such...? I am sure some authors go to more work than others to ensure "perfection". What was your process like with "publishing" Nina's latest story?

  2. Woohoo! Got it! It'll be a while before I read it because I haven't finished the series yet. I'm doling them out to myself s-l-o-w-l-y. :-)
