The Happy New Year

I actually managed to stay up till midnight to see the ball drop in Times Square. A miracle, considering how tired I was. Mr. W, Baby Girl, Son #2 and I had take-out, watched movies and old episodes of Sledgehammer (does anyone remember that show from the 80s?), ate ice cream, and searched the crowd in NYC for any signs of Son #1 and DIL, who were there celebrating. A long shot to see them, of course, but we had fun looking.

Yesterday, I finally finished A POTION TO DIE FOR, the first book in the Magic Potion series, and I love it. It'll be out in November, and I can't wait to share it with all of you (you can read a little more about it on www.heatherblakebooks.com). It had its challenges--creating a magical world isn't easy, but the characters have become such friends that I already can't wait to see what they're up to next.

But they do have to wait. Next up to write is the new Nina Quinn book, then the next Wishcraft mystery, then the next Lucy Valentine. I'll sure be busy, but I'm not convinced there's a better job in the whole world. Well, besides being a mom. That goes without saying.

Today, I'm reading the final look-through of THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE WITCHY (out in April!) -- the last chance to catch mistakes, writing Nina, polishing POTION, finishing a puzzle with son #2, and enjoying my family. I have a feeling the busyness of this day is a reflection of how the whole year will be.

I'm very lucky and blessed - 2012 was very good to me. I'm hoping 2013 will be the same for all of us. 13 is my lucky number, so I have high hopes.

Wishing you all a Happy New Year, with lots of love, good health, and happiness in the year to come.

  2. Happy New Year!

    Congratulations on finishing your book.

Look forward to reading all the books you write and publish in 2013.

I also made stayed awake (barely) until the ball drop.

Every time I saw someone in a military outfit, I thought it was your son.
