Ebook of the Day

Have you read the Gourmet Girl Mysteries written by Jessica Conant-Park and Susan Park? They're fun, sassy reads, and I definitely recommend them.

With the end of that series Jessica Park has decided to branch into the Young Adult market, and I'm happy to announce that she has a new ebook. Though it's an ebook, if you don't have Kindle or Nook, you can download software from Amazon (free!) to read ebooks on your home computer.

Here's a bit about the book:

Relatively Famous by Jessica Park

Meet Dani McKinley: A typical teen whose world is rocked when she finds out that her father is a famous Hollywood Action star. Now meet Mark Ocean: A self-serving actor with a floundering career who sees that a daughter is just what he needs to reinvent himself as a family man and get back on track. When the two decide to spend the summer together, they must not only wrangle their own love lives, but try to figure out who they really are to themselves and to each other.

Now armed with credit cards, club memberships, and a new wardrobe, Dani learns that what Mark has in wealth, he sorely lacks in parenting skills. Trying to show Mark that parenting is about more than loading her up with Prada bags and taking her to movie premieres is challenging enough, but she's also got her hands full with her new friends. Oh, and the boys... Dani meets Jason, a gorgeous young personal trainer who is easy on the eyes and wildly flirtatious. But is this smug hottie the one for her? Or will she ignore her friends eye-rolling and go for the goofy but sweet surfer?

While juggling her own complicated love life, Dani tries to set her father up with someone less likely to appear on a VH1 reality show, and someone more... well, normal. And age-appropriate. And dressed in anything but a thong bikini. But whether Mark is able to heal old wounds and move forward with anything more than a meaningless fling remains to be seen.

Can Dani fit in with this new, fast-moving California crowd without losing herself? With the world at her fingertips and hot boys now after her, staying grounded gets tough. And can Mark drop his egocentric approach to life and lean to appreciate how truly wonderful his daughter is? As driven as he is to get that A-list acting role, he's willing to do whatever it takes to get there, even if it means using his daughter. Or is he...? Mark and Dani's relationship hits a few highs, but the question becomes whether the lows are too much.

And a review from Dru Ann's review site:

Relatively Famous by Jessica Park. Published by Smashwords, June 2010

Meet Dani McKinley: A typical teen whose world is rocked when she finds out that her father is a famous Hollywood action star. Now meet Mark Ocean: A self-serving actor with a floundering career who sees that a daughter is just what he needs to reinvent his image. When the two spend the summer together, they must not only wrangle their own love lives, but try to become father and daughter.

This is my first young adult book and I enjoyed it. Dani learns that her father is a famous actor and spends the summer getting to know him. We watch as her father learns what it means to have a daughter in his life while Dani learns about friendship, love, maturity and acceptance. This was a good read. My rating: 4.5 stars

Sounds like a fun book, doesn't it?

What are you reading lately? I have Snipped in the Bud by Kate Collins on my nightstand.

  2. Right now I'm reading Anywhere She Runs by Debra Webb, a romantic suspense book.

Next week I'll have more books than I can read in a day with several authors having their debut novel on the bookshelves.

  4. Thank you, Heather. :) I'm hoping to start Stephen McCauley's new book called Insignificant Others. I love all of his novels, so I've been saving this one for when I get some downtime

  6. Tonya, no need to stop! What books are you reading?

Dru, I usually get to sit next to Debra Webb at the RWA literacy signing every year. She's great!

Melissa, you know I love westerns. I'm writing down this title. Have you read Jodi Thomas' Texas books? Sigh.

    Jessica, you have downtime???

Shel, I'm jealous. I still need to read it.
