The Good, the Amusing, and the Disturbing

The Good
Start crossing those fingers—my latest proposal went to my editor last week. It’s another witch-themed book. This one is set in the South, written in third person (gasp), and I can’t tell you how much I love it. I adore these characters and really hope my editor wants it so I can finish the story. I think, maybe, I was a Southern Belle in a former life—that setting is so much fun to write.

The Amusing
A few weeks ago, if you might recall, I was a guest at Chick Lit and Chocolate. Another guest was a real-life aura-reading psychic. Lovely woman who seemed to nail the personalities of everyone who spoke to her. I wasn’t planning on asking anything too specific, but couldn’t help myself. If she’s correct, the witch books are going to do really well (I hope she’s right!). But when Judy Cross (from Foul Play Books) asked her if I was going to win the Agatha Award, the psychic looked thoughtful for a moment, then basically said no. LOL. She was very kind about letting me down easy. Hey, at least I don’t have to get a speech ready.

The Disturbing
Mr. W is a big fan of duck sauce with stir-fry and certain chicken dishes. That’s not the disturbing part. The disturbing part is the sauce we bought at Kroger (don’t judge) claimed to be authentic, blah, blah. Then, on closer inspection we discovered the sauce is made in...New Jersey. LOL. Just doesn’t seem right.

And just because...

A picture of the day. It’s an older shot, but it's one of my favorites.

  3. Beautiful picture, Heather.

I have no doubt your witch series is going to be a huge success...and looking forward to a bit of southern flavor in your writing. Although, third person. That scares me. Don't know if I could do it, but am very happy that you can. Guess I haven't been writing long enough yet.

  5. Thanks, Dru, I'll take that finger-crossing!

LOL, thanks, Lisa. Are you going to be at the Festival of Mystery?

Thanks, LJ! At first, I kept slipping up with the third person, mixing in "I"s and "Me"s. It's not the easiest voice for me, but I like it.

Thanks, Rochelle! I'll let Mr. W know. :)

  6. LOL...I've often felt I was a Southern Belle in a former life as well. I can slip into that drawl waaaay to easily! Hmmm...perhaps time for a past-life regression?

And of COURSE those witch books will do well...you're writing them, after all! :-)

  10. I will cross my fingers for your new proposal after I finish typing this message. Good luck with your new proposals, I love the witch theme! This doesn't have anything to do with this post but I will ask it anyway. I miss your blogs about your book picks, and what you are currently reading. I added many books to my TBR list from your posts. Do you think you could stop by your website or on facebook and give us some reading suggestions every once in a while, just whenever you have some time? I would really appreciate it and I'm sure a lot of other people would too! Thanks Heather!

  12. I get your posts sometimes but maybe I need to check it more often. Yes, I agree facebook can be cranky more often than not :) Sometimes you don't even show up on my friends list, which is very strange because other times you are listed.

I went to Target tonight and saw several books I am interested in. I also grabbed Kate Collins new flower shop book because they only had 2 left! Have a great day Heather.
