My daughter is currently speed-reading The Grapes of Wrath.Which can only mean one thing. School starts tomorrow.
Gotta love summer reading.
Obviously, she's a bit of a procrastinator like me, but to her credit she did finish--and complete an essay--on her other two summer reading books, The Scarlet Letter and Adventures of Huck Finn, well ahead of time.
Summer reading brings back lots of memories for me. The dread of homework during summer (so not fair), but also the surprise of finding some real literary gems, like Rebecca and The Murder of Roger Ackroyd (which remains one of my favorite A.C. novels).
Did you procrastinate doing summer reading? Any gems you remember?
My school didn't require summer reading. Thank God. I used to wait and wait for school to be over so I could go to the library and take out a bunch of books that I WANTED to read, rather than being forced to read. I would read a lot each summer, and I loved having control over my book choices.

ReplyDeleteNikki, I haven't heard of that one (tells how much I venture into sci-fi and fantasy!). I love that it inspired you, though. And I bet the author would love it, too.
We didn't have summer reading with the school, but you found me sitting in the library corner reading as many books as we could.
