The Staycation

First, I just want to say a big THANK YOU to everyone who has picked up (or is planning to) a copy of A WITCH BEFORE DYING. Launch week is always exciting and nerve-wracking for me, but overall I'm thrilled that you finally get to read the book!

Okay, so the staycation...

The thing is, we had a vacation planned. We really did. Then things kind of unraveled, and the decision was made to just stay home. On a few conditions. One was that we really would treat it like a vacation. We'd do fun things and go out to eat and NOT WORK and just have fun with each other.

Well, today's the last day of the staycation, and with the exception of being online yesterday for the release of AWBD, we've all managed the whole not working thing. And we had lots of fun.The kids loved it. Mr. W and I loved it. I'm sad it's over. Next year I'm thinking a two-week staycation might be in order. I should start planning that now...

Have any of you done a staycation?

  1. I've never done a staycation. I'm not sure I could trust myself to not do any work. Sounds like you had a great one and what a wonderful way to get to know - or revisit your home town. Might have to plan something for next year.

I'm behind on my reading, but I'm finishing up It Takes A Witch before I go back to school tomorrow. I love it. And will be buying A Witch Before Dying. I loved the postcard you sent out for it. Since I do so much reader's advisory, I thought I would create a notebook with my reviews/recommendations and your beautiful postcard will be a nice addition. Don't work too hard now that your staycation is over.

  2. Booklady, it was really hard not to work (things like vacuuming, etc), but it really was a nice break.

SO happy you're enjoying IT TAKES A WITCH, and I love the idea about a little notebook!

  3. I love the idea of a staycation but I get a little "cabin" fever sometimes and I'm afraid I might feel like that staying at home for a week not working! My husband treated me to my copy of A Which Before Dying last night (he was surprised the cover was the exact same as the post card he's not very into books!!) and I'm already on chapter 4. Great so far!

  4. I know I wouldn't be able to not work if I stayed home instead of going somewhere. When we do stay in hotels, I catch myself picking up towels and making beds. I an soooo enjoying A Witch Before Dying. It's one of my new favorite series. Can't wait for the next one to come out!!!

  5. That is so fun that you and your family have had a successful staycation! What kinds of fun things did you guys do?

I've never attempted a staycation and wonder how successful it would/could be with such little kids. There is just the potential for so much mess making and the subsequent picking up here at home. I supposed if I put up most of the toys before the start of the "vacation" that could potentially help. I really could limit the toys we'd have access to without guilt as when we're on a true vacation our toy/game availability is severely limited. Hmmm...something to think about!

A BIG hooray on the release of A Witch Before Dying!

  7. Happy Book Release Week! I was finally able to pick up my copy Wednesday & just as I suspected I love it already!!

As far as a staycation, I've never really done that. I am going on a family vacation to CO in October and am really looking forward. We go every year and always love it but for some reason I always feel like I wanta couple of days off when I get back home.
